Headquartered in Evanston, IL, the company was founded in 2005 by Alex Arzoumanidis after five years in research and development at Schlumberger, the premier oilfield services company. His experience both there and during Materials Science laboratory research revealed a need and opportunity for extremely high resolution, robust sensors.

Dr. Arzoumanidis completed undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He serves as an IDEA Affiliate at Northwestern University and holds a Lecturer position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
